Chairman's Welcome

Dr. Edward Yeomans MD, Department Chair Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Ed Yeomans

Welcome to the web site of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock. I am pleased that you are taking the time to visit us. We want you to become acquainted with our faculty, residents and staff as well as our clinical, educational and research activities. Our faculty and staff are focused on excellence in obstetrics and gynecology. Their enthusiasm and dedication to teaching, patient care and academics is our greatest asset.

We have a Medical Pavilion on our campus where our residents provide outpatient care to women of all ages under faculty supervision. At our Center for Perinatal Medicine we have a diagnostic center for ultrasounds, genetics and fetal testing services that serves a large portion of West Texas. In addition to the gynecology continuity of care clinic, we have a number of other subspecialty clinics including diabetes, high risk obstetrics, reproductive endocrinology & infertility, and colposcopy.

The department also provides ample opportunities for research for students and residents. Each resident is assigned a research mentor in the first year and is expected to present a finished project in the third or fourth year at our annual resident research day. The faculty is actively engaged in a variety of research endeavors across all areas of the specialty. Sam Prien, Ph.D. is the department鈥檚 director of research. Dr. Prien鈥檚 laboratory is located within the department and serves as a unique resource for both basic science and clinical research.

No one individual or group makes us successful, but rather it is the comprehensive knowledge and skills of our administration, clinicians, nurses, patient services staff, residents and faculty. As a team we strive to provide unmatched care to patients, and the finest education to students.
