In the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at �������ϲ�Ͷע, undergraduate and graduate students learn and interact with faculty in an innovative teaching, clinical, and research environment focused on audiology and speech-language pathology.

As an undergraduate student, you will learn about the normal processes of speech, hearing, and language, and also learn about a variety of communication disorders. Since hearing and speech are so closely related, you will get exposure to both areas of the profession. A graduate degree is required to practice as a speech-language pathologist or audiologist. The undergraduate program here at �������ϲ�Ͷע prepares students for graduate school. As an undergraduate, you won’t have to choose between speech-language pathology and audiology until you decide to pursue graduate-level work.

In the bachelor’s program, you will also complete all required coursework to become a licensed speech-language pathology assistant.

Careers With a Bachelor's in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences

After completing our undergraduate program, you can obtain a variety of entry-level jobs and also pursue advanced education in fields such as speech-language pathology, audiology, education, or health care administration. Entry-level positions may include:

• A licensed speech-language-pathology assistant (SLPA).
• A caseworker at a state agency.
• An early intervention specialist (EIS).
• A licensed hearing aid specialist (with additional training).

Across the nation, the number of positions available for health care support workers like SLPAs is growing.

• According to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), job growth for speech-language-pathology assistants is projected to increase 10%-14% through 2026 nationally, faster than average for all occupations.
• In Texas, the demand will be even higher with projected job growth of 21% for health care support workers.
